Sujatha this month’s review.

9:37 AM 0 Comments
Month – August 2015

Well it’s becoming quite clear that Sirasa has seen that Wassane Premaya is 100% better drama than Sujatha. So this month we saw quite a few big changes on screen and well as an audience we have mixed feelings.

It all starts with Sajith’s proposal to Sujatha. He really wants to marry her and hell it is not going to happen. The obedient daughter Sujatha becomes a lovesick girl. She begins to rebel against her parents and voila she is in trouble. Shakya of course understands all this and is playing the sweet boyfriend and I love it!
Anyhow all of a sudden the screen writers decide to kill of Sujatha’s father. They put it so that it all becomes her fault. While she goes to do Trishula work and it all happens to be a trap. Her father and Shakya came to help her and out of the blue they kill of Sujatha’s father.

Sirasa TV at the moment is creating non stop problems to make the plot interesting. I would say at the moment it seems to be working but in the near future it’s going to get old. I mean come on to many problems are going to make us sick of the drama. Sirasa should try putting some comic relief and see how it works. Their inability to make long standing interesting dramas is quite clear now. Sirasa is literally showing foreign dramas to cover up their inability. They brought Yeh Hai Mohabbatien, Duir Aur Bhati Hum and now My Love from Another Star. Come on Sirasa stop importing; use those plots to make our own dramas!!!

Anyhow soon Sujatha is not even allowed to leave the house and she is pretty much living in hell. Chanuka and Sajith are also up to o good. They convince Sajith’s dumb mother that it is Shakya who killed Sujatha’s father. So he is taken away to the police station and Sujatha is facing hard times.  To make things even worse Shakya’s mother (out of nowhere) arrives and says she wants Shakya to end the relationship. Well, this another cheap trick played by Sirasa TV.

I mean how the hell did Shakya’s mother come out of the blue? I though Madhini had a connection with Shakya. Sirasa you are making this plot way too complicated!!! You guys just need to add a little bit of comic relief and put some neutral characters. However you guys are just taking a wrong turn to make the plot more interesting, in the long run it would affect the plot big time. Moreover Sujatha is treated very badly right now. very one treats her badly so that she feels she is adopted. It feels as though everyone called her theirs until the father lived and now it's time to take revenge from her.

Anyhow I like the fact the Malithi is taking Sujatha’s side right now and kicking Sajith out. I hope in the end Malithi falls in love with Shakya’s friend and kick Sajith out. Sajith as far as I am concerned should end up alone for being so possessive. J J J J J J

The Horoscopes - Wassane Premaya Week 3 review.

9:26 AM 0 Comments
Week: August 24th – August 28th

The horoscopes became “horrorscopes” this week for our loving couple. To start the week horribly  the Shoba issue came back as a photograph. At first Astha’s parents hid this fact from her. However, most probably due destiny Astha finds this photograph. She is of course really hurt and Aditya is going to face hell itself.

On the other hand Pramitha’s (Aditya’s sister in law) mother comes for a visit and Ms Danthanarayana is not at all pleased. Of course I am not surprised as to why Ms Danthanarayana hates Pramila’s mother – she is simply bonkers. This mother is one of those no daughter ever wants others to meet. As usually seen in these types of mothers, Pramitha’s mother robs anything she sees. It is no wonder that Pramitha is pretty much worshiping the Danthanarayanas.

When asked about his former love Aditya is keeping his silence. This silence is pretty much freaking me out. This is because I feel the screen writers are waiting to drop the bomb. Anyhow while Astha and Aditya are trying to solve this solution, another problem arises. Yes the horoscopes of these love birds don’t match. However the evil smile Ms Danthanarayana gave at that moment kind of made me suspicious.  She might have changed Aditya’s horoscope so that it doesn’t match Astha’s.

Anyhow the last parting picture of the two lovers looking shocked was very cute. So we are kind of left with a cliff hanger this week. We don’t exactly know what the hell Aditya will be doing. However, according to the Precap Aditya will be running away with Astha. Yep, the writers are taking a Romeo Juliet turn, it will be all “O Romeo, Romeo where art thou”.  Anyhow Astha says no to this harebrained scheme of Aditya’s and voila he holds a gun to her asking her to go with him or die. This was not all out of character for this guy as he is that type; he is the type who will be all macho in this kind of situation.

This week was of course a roller coaster ride for all of us. The fact that the screen writers put comic relief into the drama is a good sign. This comic relief of course came in the form of Pramitha’s mother (she is a really good actress; she also dubs Thoshi in Me Adarayai. If this comic relief wasn’t given to us, we would have got sick of Wassane Premaya due to too many problems coming up. I also like to point out that when Aditya looked shocked about the horoscopes it looked quite genuine. Maybe, just maybe, Aditya is not faking all this love for Astha. Maybe he really has feelings for her. Anyway to confirm this assumption we will have to continue to watch this drama and see how the plot turns out. J J J J J J

My Love from another Star as Ananthayen Aa Tharu Kumara – Sirasa TV

7:36 AM 0 Comments

Hello guys I am back. Today it is about another good drama about to come to Sri Lanka. Kim Soo-hyun  acts as Do Min Jo in this drama. He rose to fame in Sri Lanka after his role as King Lee Hwon in Moon Embraces the Sun. This drama however is a fantasy genre drama and is super cute.
Kim Soo Hyun oppa tribute :)

So let’s get to the basic details of this drama.
Modern era couple(Top) & Joseon couple (below)

An alien (Kim Soo-hyun) has lived in the Joseon dynasty with his love. The girl dies while she tries to save him. He has been living on earth with this dreadful pain. However in the modern era he sees his love again and she happened to be Song Yi. After 400 years of waiting for his space ship this time he doesn’t want it to come. The love that blooms between the girl Cheon Song Yi and Do Min Jo is so cute. This drama deals with the fact that loves comes in different ways. The sad part for me was that the space ship finally comes but this time Do Min Jo doesn’t want to leave Song Yi and leave Earth. Anyway don’t be afraid it has a cute somewhat happy ending.

Do Min Jo though an alien is a professor in the modern era and he loves Song Yi a famous Korean actress. It is their love that is shown through out this drama. Even though Do Min Jo is an alien, I have to point out that he is one cute alien. Every bit of this drama is a must must watch and has a real good story line. It has sadness, happiness and true love. So who doesn’t want to watch it?

This drama will be shown weekdays at 7.30 pm starting from the 31st of this month on Sirasa TV. To make things better this drama is dubbed in Sinhalese. This drama is just 20 episodes and will most probably be about 40 episodes in Sri Lanka. You will all enjoy the dress codes of the actors and actresses because they are so cute. Hope you enjoy this drama. J J J J J J

Janahithakami Rajiniya and the matriarchy…

2:07 AM 0 Comments

A matriarchy is a system within which the women hold the positions of power as oppose to a patriarchy where men hold positions of power. Within a matriarchy women are higher up in the social hierarchy than men and hold important positions within the country. This method is commonly seen among elephants where the older female leads and provides security for the herd. So simply speaking, it is the exact opposite of   our current system which is patriarchal.

Queen Seondeok aka Janahithakami Rajiniya a Korean Drama shown on MBC and presently airing on Sri Lanka Rupavahini is a perfect example of a matriarchy. In Janahithakami Rajiniya the country of Silla is solely run by women at one stage of its history (Note that Silla is one of the kingdoms of Korea before all three kingdoms united to be Joseon). In Janahithakami Rajiniya the nation is run by a Queen. Of Course she has men to guard and support her on some issues but other than that she has all the power to do what ever she wants. Moreover Queen Seondeok is trained as an army personal or a Nangdo and was part of the Hawarangs (the elite army of Silla). So she was a martial artist and was very capable of defending herself.

At one point Seondeok’s father, the King asks her to get married so that he could give his throne to her husband. Seondeok refuses this and claims that she will take the throne as Queen Seondeok.  Of course this is a decision which is opposed by all the nobles but at the end of the day Bidam, Kim Yushin and Kim Alcheon join together to make Seondeok the Queen. So this is a very feminist story as women are being empowered.

Yes and now we come to the villain. Most dramas would choose a man as the main villain however in Janahithakami Rajiniya the main villainous is Mishil. Mishil is a Hawarang and is the beholder of the seal. She has so much power that King Jinji and later King Jinpyeong (Seondeok’s father) were under her control. Not only this, she had many lovers and she used them for political gain. While she remained as a concubine to the King’s she had relationships with Sejong and Seolwon. Both these men were of high positions in Silla. Sejong was the Prime Minister and the 6th leader of the Hawarang warriors and he was her husband.   Seolwon is Mishil’s lover; he is the Defense Minister and the 7th leader of the Hawarang. Mishil had children with both these men and they were also Hawarang leaders or commanders. So through this she was able to gain power.

Something to note is that even though Mishil gave birth to these children she never looked after them. Their fathers were the ones who looked after and raised the children. I personally think this is very feminist and the equality of the genders is nice to watch. Even though Mishil is a villainous she is a character to admire. She being a woman never gave up, she never thought otherwise and she had so much power as a woman. She was never controlled by men; rather she controlled all the men.

Even Queen Seondeok never fell before a man; she never once thought that she will never survive without a man.  She even gave up her love for Bidam for her country. She gave up on him when he started a war to dethrone her because a woman was not fit to control Silla. Of course there was a huge misunderstanding but yet this shows how strong Seondeok /Deokman was as a women. Silla therefore is a prime example of a matriarchy and a very inspirational one.

The fact that this whole story is based on a real life person   Seondeok of Silla is even more inspirational.  After all we are suffering in a patriarchal society in Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka women are usually not given equal status and are continuously discriminated within society a prime example here is the Wariyapola girl’s incident. So I hope the matriarchy shown in Janahithakami Rajiniya and its strong female characters will inspire women all around Sri Lanka.

Astha’s lion roar – Wassane Premaya Week 2 review

1:56 AM 0 Comments

Week – August 17th to August 21st 2015

Harrrrrrsh Astha is one heck of a woman! Recently Wassane Premaya took very anti feminist terms. Astha was in Aditya’s shadow most of last week. This really annoyed me as it was very annoying to see Astha being under Aditya’s control. She was literally begging for his attention most of the drama time. Yes of course they shared some very cute moments but the feeling that Astha was loosing her autonomy was lingering through out the drama.

Well the screen writers have obviously felt this feeling. I am saying this because this week Astha roared the lion’s roars. She showed the Danthanarayana’s that she was not a lovesick girl. She faces Aditya’s mother confidently and showed Aditya that she was not his doll. This week Astha proved to the Danthanarayana’s that they were hiding their secrets and making people suffer because of it.

Aditya’s sister was a woman who was suffering under a hostile husband. This husband (Akila) is played by Kavinga Pereira and yes he is becoming a very good villain.  Astha gets to know about this and tells Aditya about it. However Aditya’s sister tells her to shut up and that no such thing has happened. Astha was of course opposed by Aditya and his mother. She is eventually kicked out of Danthanarayana house and she didn’t seem sad about it. She tries to talk to Aditya but well as always he was being arrogant and stubborn.

Aditya goes to meet Astha later but this is only to say that she needs to ask for forgiveness – this guy is never going to change. Astha happily replies that she will prove that she was right and only then will she come back to the Danthanarayana house. Aditya doesn’t understand and he compares Astha to his mother. Have to tell u guys that this guy is such a misogynist and it’s a bit annoying. Astha doesn’t care at all about what Aditya said and she continues to say she will prove that Akila is destroying Aditya’s sister’s life.

With the help of Astha’s friend Astha was able to get a video to prove that she was right. She comes to the Danthanarayana house and roars the lion’s roar. She gives Ms Danthanarayana the CD with the video. Of course the woman throws the CD away. Aditya comes and tells Astha “ah you have come to ask for forgiveness”. Astha smirks and gives the CD to Aditya to watch.  The hell comes forth when the Danthanarayana’s see the video and Akila and his wife are called. Aditya kicks Akila out of the Danthanarayana house and his wife takes Astha’s side.

Finally Astha has shown us viewers that she is not Aditya’s little doll. I hope the screen writers keep up this Astha and kick out Aditya’s little doll Astha. If you ask me I will tell you guys to watch this drama over Sujatha. Sujatha as all Sirasa TV dramas is becoming annoying with all the crying and Trishula talk. The plot in Wassane Premaya is far more promising. Anyhow Melody of Love is also starting on TV Derana and the main actress is voiced by the girl who dubbed Jandi. I love it when dramas are dubbed simply because it makes us get so much closer to the character as we feel they are one of us J Oh also guys get ready to feel sorry for Yushin big time on Janahithakami Rajiniya…you will cry for him in the same way you cried for Yung Myung but keep some tears for Bidam too because his story will leave you depressed for weeks…lets meet again next week J J J J J J

Raman V Mani – Me Adarayai

1:43 AM 0 Comments

This week was a heck of a ride for all of us as Me Adarayai/ Yeh Hai Mohabbatien fans. We all went on a roller coaster ride with Raman’s jealousy against Mani’s sweetness. It reminds me of Shakespeare’s famous lines from Othello “Beware my lord of jealousy it is the green eyed monster that doth mock the meat it feeds on. “  In a way Raman’s jealousy toward Mani is quite understandable. Mani is everything Raman is not. Mani is sweet, Mani is understanding, Mani is loving, Mani is tall, Mani is cute and Mani is Ishita’s best friend.

So this week Raman tries to be the good husband. The husband he thinks Ishita always wanted. As always Raman screws the whole thing up (mind my French). He puts all the clothes together into the washing machine and he switches Isitha’s phone off all because he loves her. In return Ishita scolds are poor Raman without even thinking why he is doing all these thinks. However that cute kiss was just so sweet  J

Mani on the other hand loves Ishita a hell of a lot. However he also knows that his Ishu is in love with Raman. When he shouts at Raman it is just to let Raman see how much of an idiot Raman is. Mani is trust me a real nice guy. He cares both for Ishita and Raman.

Mani is if you have notice is putting Raman and Ishita together. Yesterday Raman was smiling and watching Ishita sleeping, this is so telling behavior for a lovesick guy. However Raman will continue to be an ass even in the Asian head ceremony. After getting his award he would say that he got to this place because of his ex wife Shagun – he thinks this will make Ishu jealous. This will hurt Ishu big time and Mani will be seen looking shocked.  Raman just doesn’t trust Ishu at all and this is so annoying. However Ishu should also understand that Raman is feeling threatened by Mani and keep her distance from him.  Raman’s jealousy was so obvious when he rejects Ishu’s bracelet saying that she brought it for Mani. Ishu should have understood the problem then and there but no she is too dumb to understand it.

Anyhow guys don’t worry that Mani will destroy Raman’s and Ishu’s love. Mani will just push these two dimwits together and make them confess their love for each other. Raman’s jealousy is going to make him do some very dumb things but Mani and Ishu will make them correct. Anyhow in the coming episodes Mihika will fall into Ashok’s trap. Ashok will try to take advantage of Sarika’s pregnancy but Mani and Ishu will make things better and Raman will get his award without any issue. Ishu will therefore take care of the issue (lolJ). At the end of the day Raman will win over Mani but come on there was never a competition, Raman just thought it was a competition. Mani never came back to destroy Ishu’s marriage, the screen writers brought him up to make Raman and Ishu confess their love for each other. Enjoy the up coming episodes…J J J J J J

Sazuran on Rupavahini.

1:30 AM 0 Comments

The hit Japanese drama is shown on Rupavahini right now. It is shown at 3.00 pm on weekdays. Even thought this drama didn’t become as famous as Oshin, it is a pretty drama. It is a must watch as I have watched this drama before. This drama also follows a “diriya diyaniya” as many of Rupavahini dramas. It was first shown on Rupavahini in 2008 at 7.30 pm. This drama is about 94 episodes and already 12 episodes have flown by.

The drama follows Sazuran. She was left as a baby in one of Japan’s train stations. The station master takes in Sazuran as his daughter. He takes her in thinking of his wife who died recently. Everyone the station master knows tells him that this little baby girl is blessing for him from his dead wife. So Sazuran grows up with a loving father and is under the impression that the station master is her real father,

With time however Sazuran sees the difference between her birthday and the day the station master’s wife died. She starts to questions who she really is. She starts to dream of meeting her real mother. Sazuran’s adoptive father does not like all this at all. However a parcel arrives for Sazuran and well it is from her biological mother. The gift is revealed to be a scarf. Sazuran’s father doesn’t want to give this to Sazuran. However destiny interferes and Sazuran’s dream of meeting her mother might become true.

This drama shows the life of a very sweet, young Japanese girl. Produced in the 1999 this drama is a must watch for audiences of all ages.  Lets us all follow the life of Sazuran and cry and laugh with her together. I hope you guys will enjoy this drama. Also have to mention that the theme song for this drama is really beautiful. J J J J J J

Upala Pregnant in Uthum Pathum!!!

9:54 AM 0 Comments

Okay its official I hate this drama. I hate the fact that they put a woman this low. I mean come on Upala was such a nice girl. Why the hell did they have to make her pregnant? I know that she was obsessed with Kalum but come one would she give her virginity (I am being quite frank here) up for that!!!

She was of course Kalum’s little puppy and she was always behind Kalum but she is not a jackass!! She was always such a nice girl but the screen writers destroyed this girl. I am being conservative here of course. I have my views that sex should be after marriage and that is that but when it happened to Upala it was just unbelievable.

On the other hand Kalum is being such an ass. He is choosing money over true love and he is so cool about it. Upala is also not at all seeing the truth. I mean it is so annoying when this kind of crap happens in dramas. Yes I know I don’t know much about love at all but come on do women become that dumb when they in love? Don’t they have priorities? Which woman would give up her virginity for a guy who is to marry another woman?

This drama is extremely patriarchal.  It puts the men above the women. Now see the traditional Sri Lankan society ranges women from Madonna to Whore. Upala was of course the Madonna and now the writers have pulled her do to the so called whore level.  They could have just made Upala keep her last shred of dignity but no they wanted to pull her down that low. I am talking about most Sri Lankan’s view on this episode and these are not my personal views. I personally believe it is none of our business but at the end of the day what do these dramas give our young audience.

Most hilariously the pulled Upala lower by making her say “O I want to commit suicide! O mother kill me”. Come on screen writers this is not ROMEO AND JULIET!!!! If you cannot right a proper story just give up writing. This drama trust me is the most horrible drama I have watched in ages.  In this drama women are portrayed as love slaves even Varuni is such a thing. Sudu Hamineh is the only women who stood her ground as one strong woman but they kicked her out of the show.

All the women in this drama are so one sided. Kalum’s mother is an “only my son is right “woman. Varuni is a “He is my guy I am having him some how even by hiding his wrongs”. Varuni’s mother is a Tiger mother. Upala’s mother is “my daughter is my life I will hid her wrongs”. Chamarie is a greedy woman. At the end of the day there is nothing much worth in this drama to watch. Well may be its time to bid adieu to this drama and wait for My Love from Another Star probably next month.
