Daskon episode 4 recap:-)

9:05 AM 0 Comments
Hey it is Daskon time again and its time to write another episode recap. Hope u guys enjoy this one as much as u did the last on. OK time to see what happens in 1707 Kandyan kingdom Sri Lanka:-)
The scene starts with the narrator saying that the Prince has ended his 7 day fast and is to be taken to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa) and is to offer flowers to the Buddha and promise he will protect Buddhism and look after his people. After this he is shown to the people. There is a stage in front of the people which is covered with white curtains and I have to point out that I was impatient to see the new King. Daskon goes to aside to write in his journal about what's happening and the last white curtain is lifted and lo and behold there is the King of Sri Lanka/Ceylon/Taprobane. He lifts his hand and the people and minsters fall on their knees to show him respect and shout long live the King. Patiya Bandara the eldest son of the last King watches on but doesn't bend to show respect and he angrily pushes some things and goes away.
The next scene is another cute scene about the Prince's girlfriend. She is having a fake marriage imagining one of her servants as the Crown Prince. There is a song and we see that they believe that this noble lady is going to be the Queen and carry the Crown Prince in her womb. Then comes the talk about where she is going to live and how she is going to leave all the servants behind. The lady is shocked when they say she will be taken to the Kandyan Palace but she points out that the Prince said she will be taken to the Palace nearby. The servants are shocked and say that thats the Palace of the Yakaladoli. They say that she will live in the same chamber as the King as the Queen of Sri Lanka and after this they say that when she gives birth to the Crown Prince they will sing the poems sung by Queen Mahamaya when she gave birth to Prince Siddharatha. It was hilarious when the lady imagines herself being carried away by the Prince to the Palace and all of a sudden she falls only to find that she was carried by her servant. They image the coronation and how the lady keeps giggling which cause the mnister to ask why she is giggling which causes the servant dressed as the Prince to say that the lady has accidenty swolled a kitten and that when it moves it tikkles her causing her to giggle. Then the minister says that let the lady fly a kite and let the Prince take the crown.

The minsters meet and they say that the ceromony before the coronation was successfull but the minister called Yalayagoda points out that Patiya Bandara owns the Crown which cause the minister who is on the Prince's side to tell him not to takePatiya Bandara's side.
In the Mother Queen Palace a letter arrives from Indai to say that the next Portugal boat will bring the Princess Premila to Sri Lanka.tThe next thing we know is that a messenger comes in a hurry to the ministers to tell some news but what is it.....to be continued next Saturday 8.30.
Overall it was a good episode....

Daskon - Episode 3 recap.

9:52 AM 0 Comments
Hey guys its time for Daskon again it is episode 3 recap. Well I have to say these few episodes are all facts but it is mainly because this is the first time a history drama of this scale is shown in Sri Lanka and so there is a lot of history to cover:-) Here we go time for episode 3:

Again all the ministers are are at it again. Who is going to be the next King? This is the question eryone in the palace is asking. The fate of the whole nation lies in the hand s of the ministers. The fat elder brother's name is Patiya Bandara he is the son of Yakala Doli (the Sinhalese queen of Sri Lanka).

Time for some history : A Sri Lankan King from Kandy is only to have two Queens one of them is a Southern Indian Buddhist princess while the other is a noble woman from Sri Lanka again a Buddhist. The Sinhalese noble lady is called Yakala Doli like Suk Bin and Hee Bin in Korea. Usually the Crown Prince is the son of the Indian princess.

Patiya Bandara is called a illiterate man by some ministers while the other ministers call him a man with Sinhalese blood. The Crown Prince who's name by the way is Prince Pundasali is having a hard time in his own palace and Daskon arrives to tell him that the ministers are yet arguing.Saying this Daskon leaves to know what is happening in the main palace hall.

The ministers have decided that the King is going to be Crown Prince Pundasali and points out he will change his boyish ways when he becomes King but one minister keeps on pointing out that the Prince is yet 17 years old. Daskon takes the news to the Crown Prince Pundasali. Here we get to know a little bit of Daskon. He says Prince Pundasli and he are very similar because their parents are from different countries and different nationalities. Daskon's father is French while his mother is Portuguese while the Prince's mother is Indian and father is Sri Lankan. The Prince is offended and he says they are different people that Daskon is a "pitadashakaraya" - a man who came from another country but he is the Crown Prince of Sri Lanka. Daskon then replies his father came to Sri Lanka after reading a book on Ceylon (Sri Lanka) by Robert Nox. He points out that he is luckier than his father since he can see the coronation of the new King.

In the Queen palace the Queen,s father asked the Queen why her son doesn't come to see her here the Queen says that the Prince is doing a fasting in memory of the King. The father asks what stupid traditions these were. Ironically, the traditional rituals to make Prince Pundasali the King is being done in the main palace and Daskon watches on. The seven days of fasting passes by and Daskon says he is surprised how a bit of religious meditations could makes a boyish Prince into a wise King. Daskon days he will do ranging to get the religious bliss the Prince is experiencing and the Prince says he was with his father the whole time even though he was not with him when his father died. Daskon asks what the Prince's Royal name would be and then we he in the background traditional chants the name King Nerendra Sinha. To be continued....next Saturday 8.30 pm.

My thoughts: wow I can't wait for next week. Like I said this drama will get better when the Princess and the Sinhalese Yakala Doli arrives:-) You will be surprised to see who the Yakala Doli is:-)

Daskon - Episode 2 recap

So how is the weekend guys ....I have a huge answer for literature to write:-) doesn't sound fun ha? Well now its time for a Daskon recap:-)
Well the day starts of with the Crown Prince going to the palace on a urgent meeting. Daskon is with the Prince and they meet up with the ministers its seems like bad news...and it is - what a surprise...
The main minister tells the Prince that the King is dying and we can see that the prince is in shock and he takes awhile to grasp what's been said. The Prince tells the minister "let me meet my father the King." The minister says according to the tradition of the Kandyan Kingdom this is impossible. The Prince looses his temper he screams "what traditions" and hits one of the vases in the Palace and it crashes to the ground. The ministers are pretty freaked out the Prince seems like he is loosing it and what do you know we see tears steaming down his cheeks and he is sobbing and silently saying I want to see my father. He leans against Daskon and tells him "write this in your report/book..write that this is the first and the last time the Crown Prince cried."The ministers point out that according to the Kandyan tradition the people outside the palace should only know that the King is in critical condition. I believe this is mainly because the country will be in chaos as the Portuguese are invading and having strong hold around Sri Lanka's coastal areas. The Prince turns to a minister who is on his side and yet says he wants to see the kings body. The minister says the main minister will take his near the kings body but the Prince can't look or touch it since its against traditions.
The Prince sees his father from far and later in his room Daskon can hear the Prince crying and there Daskon writes that this is the first and last time the Prince is going to cry.
In the Palace all representatives of the people gather in the Palace halls and they are told the King is in critical condition and that since they should be ready for anything they are going to decide who the next King should be. One representative says the Crown Prince should be King everyone starts whispering its seems some don't like the Prince. However the the minister says the Crown Prince shall be named the King as there is no objections. Everyone is silent and suddenly a booming voice says "I object!" This man names himself the eldest son of the King and that the Crown Price is his younger brother therefore he the rightful owner of throne. Again all the representatives start to scream out some say he should be King others say the Crown Prince should be King.
Ths eldest son is fat and is always eating and I don't like him.
The Crown Prince says he wants to the Queen who was sent out of the main Palace to the outer one and she is not allowed to come to the main Palace so the Prince says "I will go and see my mother." There we see the Prince is sleeping on the Queens lap and we see a sweet mother and son moment where the Prince asks if he is a sinner since he couldn't be there at his father's last moments. The Queen tells him the King loved him and the last time she saw him the King asks if representatives went to India to get a Princess for the Prince from Southern India accordind to tradition of the Kandyan Kingdom. The Prince got a shock when the Queen says his uncles already went to India to find a suitable Princesss. We end with the Prince saying "Mother!"
My thoughts:
So far I like the story its going to be war when the Princess comes and with that eldest Prince claiming the Crown....oh can't wait for next week but since this is a true story its scary to see the end:-)

Daskon - The Story of Love and Betrayal.

11:14 PM 0 Comments

Daskon is the latest drama by Jackson Anthony. Since it had a interesting start I thought I will do the recaps for it. The background of the story is the forbidden love that was between Daskon the French descendent Sri Lankan Prime Minister and Pramila Devi the Queen of Sri Lanka. It will be a story of love, betrayal, power and royalty. Set in the Kandyan Kingdom (1600 - 1782 AD) one of the strongest in its time as it prevented the Dutch and the British from conquering Sri Lanka for 19 years.

Now to recap what happened on the first episode of this epic love story or may I hint that it is a love triangle? It started on the 6th of September at 8.30 and will be shown every Saturday on Swaranawahini.

The opening scene is of a beautiful waterfall showing us that the setting is in the Kandyan Kingdom. A couple of ladies are singing a song to a handsome youth who is playing around in the water while another is writing in a book while narrating to us and for a moment there I thought he was Shakespeare. It turns out that the handsome young man/teenager is the Crown Prince of Sri Lanka. He shouts out "Ko mage manika..."meaning simply he is looking for his girlfriend who he finds behind one of the bushes and I have to say she looked so pretty with all the flowers all over her. This pretty girl dressed like a flower girl turns out to be a Radala caste (noble class) lady and as we see the crown prince's friend points out the prince will never be able to marry her as it is not the way the kingdom is run as she is a Bandara.
This is kind of a mystery but I think the answers will come next week. Oh my god the prince is really cute when he takes his girlfriend to his arms and carries her of where they could have a romantic time. When the noble lady's servants protest the Crown Prince replys "This is my country I own it" simply saying I am the future king and I can make love to any woman I am in love with.

We also find out that the Crown Prince's boyish ways are not approved by the ministers of court but of course his friend covers up for the noble lady and her servants and the Prince's absence by saying it will take awhile before they get sick of the water. This atmosphere is broken by a messenger from the king and it seems to be really important. The next scene is set it 1707 Kandyan kingdom and we see the Crown Prince and his friend hurrying to the King's palace it does seem like bad news.... to be continued on next Saturday.
My thoughts:
Well I have to say the story seems good. The camera angles and the way the waterfall scene is shown is just superb. Well if you are guessing who the Crown Prince's friend is it is Daskon. This is why the Prince says "Have you seen this many pretty ladies in your mother land?" So as Daskon narrates the Prince is very boyish and it is cute to watch how the servants are so freaked out that the lady's father the minister would find about this love affair but the Price is so cool about it and so in control. I also have to say the Crown Prince Narendra Sinha is played so perfectly by Akila maybe its after the practice he got when he played King Parakamabahu in the high film Sri Parakum. I just wish this story was on weekdays because then we could watch it continuously but well what to do..
