Deweni Inima September Review 2017.

6:45 AM 0 Comments

Hello guysJ. Most of my classes this week got cancelled and so I have a little more free time in which I’m going to do some blog work. This will be the first post for October but be assured that 3 more posts will be posted on 3 different dramas within this month. I hope you guys are doing fine and that things are all working out for you. Currently working my ass off for my exams...things are “fine” let’s leave it at thatJ. It has been a while since I have posted isn’t it? Those days I use to post about 135 posts a year but then things have changed...priorities have changed and well life goes on. Let’s get to the review shall we?

So this month wasn’t the best Deweni Inima month ever because I felt it dragged certain story arcs way too much. The first huge draggy scene was when Udeni’s shop got sealed for the 2nd time and this time too, the culprit was Amesha. I totally don’t understand why all Udeni can do is cry and cry all the time. I mean look, when she opened the door and saw what has happened to her shop if it was me my first reaction would have been to close the door. Also she wasn’t even the tiniest bit suspicious as to how the PHI officers turned up exactly at the time she opened that door. However thank god Anuhas and Danuka got a “whiff” of it all being done by a “third party”.

With that being said, I have to point out that the screen writers should seriously make some effort to give more “power” to Udeni. She may have been a naive girl when she was with Ravi but she raised a boy all on her own for 19 years and that should make a woman stronger, not weaker.  I also didn’t like the fact that she is all “melty melty” when she speaks to Ravi. Come on woman! He is a married man with an 18 year old kid! Leave those old feelings at bay for god sake!

The next draggy issues were on the bat and Samalka. Of course poor Anuhas has to spend money on the bat and because of that he simply cannot pay Samalka’s boarding fees. If I was Samalka I would just sell my bloody “Iphone” to get the cash! I mean that bloody thing cost about 70000 rupees! She can pawn her chain to buy a bat for Anuhas but cannot sell her phone to get boarding fees? What logic is that? The only thing Samalka can do instead is cry her ass off and run to Anuhas asking for help. The only thing she knows to do is to runaway to Mathale every time an issue arises

For Christ sake writers give this woman some spunk! I also don’t get why the boarding aunty is all like “give me the money on time” out of the blue when generally she is an understanding woman. I mean she seriously can understand Samalka’s position right? She could have given her an extra bit of time. I feel the writers wanted to show some “romantic vibes” between Anuhas and Samalka and so they just pulled up this story arc but seriously guys it is not romantic and cute in fact as a woman I feel it was downright “unfeminist” and cringe worthy!

Apart from these draggy bits I felt that overall it was an alright month. The latest twist in the drama was the new “innocent” village girl who got a scholarship to the city school. It is kind of a good addition because there really are these kinds of new children coming to schools and some people simply don’t understand what these children go through. I kinda felt sorry for the girl (Lehini) because she is treated really badly by theses “Colombo” people. Then, to think about it she is a bit too innocent and if it was me in that position (given that I am a daredevil) I would have killed those Colombo shishi fufus (aka posh people) mind you.

The way Samalka treated her is very nice but then I have this bad feeling that Samalka might regret it later. I really didn’t like the “almost romantic like” vibe around Anuhas and Lehini and to add to that I felt that the interactions between them was amazingly cute. There was a rumour going around that Samalka will get a cancer and die which would make Deweni Inima have an “A fault in our stars” feel to it. If this story is true then I would think it is good because it will make the series more emotional.

Plus I don’t have much feeling towards Samalka – just feel her character is not close enough to Anuhas. It has been over 175 episodes and both of them haven’t even shown hints of romantic love – say I love you for god sake! If Samalka is to die then I think Lihini must come in to help Anuhas cope with the loss this would then lead to romance and love and etc. That really would be an amazing storyline. Or maybe the writers could pair Lihini with Chubby but then I don’t think it will work out. Deep down though I really hope the screen writers don't screw up the current Anuha - Samalka track...I don't like Samalka being ditched.

The cutest parts yet this month were those between Dewmi and Avantha. I’m seriously rooting for this couple. I love the way both these two people act cute around each other plus I totally love Avantha’s cute smiles every time he sees Dewmi. I really liked the I-throw-the-key-you-find it scene and how Danuka comes in and screws everything up. These are the only scenes apart for Mike and Chubby’s comic scenes which bring a smile to people’s faces. I really, really hope the writers put way more interactions between these two and put some romance between them.  The chemistry is at such a high level when it comes to these two on screen!

The Cubby and Mike scenes also need to be appreciated because these two put so much effort into their acting. Their little little playful things remind me of the dumb stuff I did in my school years and it just gives a feeling of contentment – if you get what I mean. Plus these two buggers are very good with their Tamil- the Basha theme plan to trick Avantha was crazy J.  The “war” between Lionel and Sonali Teacher is also amazingly funny and sometimes the “wars” tend to be more flirting than actually a fight (at least on Lionel’s part). Maybe the writers are going to put these opposites together? It will be fun to watch no doubt J.

Anuhas’s problems were a main theme throughout this month. It started off with the bat and then ended with Chubby throwing Sheran in the air. The scene where Anuhas is utterly humiliated by his own father and step brother was just so sad to watch. I mean come on, why does Ravi have to show his “bitchiness” at Anuhas all the time? But then I just loved it when Anuhas took it all back from Avantha by blooding his nose but then if you watched closely you would have seen the concern Anuhas had for Avantha.

Yes, for a moment Anuhas forgot that Avantha was his step brother but then when his anger settled down it was replaced by concern for Avantha (which is so cute – little brother- big brother scene). This just showed to us just how well Udeni has raised Anuhas –it just proved what Udeni said to Amesh “I have raised my son in a far better way than you have raised yours.”

So that’s all for this week and I hope you guys enjoyed this review, Don’t forget to be tuned into to Drama Queen for the latest in the Sri Lankan dramaworld - <3 love you all <3

Deweni Inima - A Forgotten Love - August Review 2017

11:39 PM 2 Comments

What’s up guys? How are you all doing? Yep I know that I am very late to this and I am sorry about that. I am now in the 3rd year and the results were good. I just needed some time off to get my mind together and decide what subjects I am going to do for the final year, so I was very busy. Even after so much thinking however I haven’t still decided what I am going to do and it is a bit stressful. However let me keep all my life story stuff aside and get to the much waited reviewJ. So let’s get started shall we???

Okay, so this month was a hectic month in Deweni Inima and it was quite enjoyable to watch. I know some of you are comparing this storyline with that of One tree Hill (OTH) and stating that Deweni Inima is getting draggy and much like a Indian soap opera but then I don’t think so. I believe OTH was quite a different story because it speaks of a different culture.

Halfway through it talks of living together, sex and booze but that is not a possibility with Deweni Inima. If the writer even thought of putting such things into this drama people will stop watching it and so to compensate for that Deweni Inima writers have to put in more screen time for Mike and Chubby and even Malki and Danuka.

After all, if all the characters are not provided with a storyline then we are left guessing what happened to them. I personally like the strategy the writers are using right now. They are putting in the drama, the anger and love but all in small doses. I really don’t like those dramas like Swapna which has huge doses of hatred and drama; I tend to skip those episodes intentionally. In Deweni Inima I feel the writers has striked the right balance on the emotionsJ.

This week the whole drama was about Udeni and Ravi’s love story. There was so much emotion in those scenes that I just felt that they were in love again. I just felt that somewhere deep down Ravi was still deeply in love with Udeni. I felt that he might have married Amesha because his father wanted him to. I felt that he was doing all those bad things to Anuhas because he didn’t want to feel the love he felt for Udeni and her son. Those scenes were what I would call “high voltage” and from what I saw Udeni is yet helplessly in love with Ravi and his ego.

If I were to give my opinion on this I would say that this is bad news...very bad news. Look, what I mean is that Amesha is already pissed with Udeni and if by any chance she finds something up between Ravi and Udeni she will kill Anuhas. Udeni in that sense is asking for trouble by still loving Ravi. I also really don’t like the way she falls apart in front of Amesha. I mean if I was Udeni I would just “accidently” throw a juice at Amesha’s face the next time she comes to my shop. Amesha is just a regular bitch (Anjula’s acting is amazing) and Udeni should reply back to her accusations.

Amesha even had the gut to call Udeni a “whore” and if it was me, I would have acted like I didn’t hear it right – just like Ananda did some time ago. I seriously think that the writers should put some life into Udeni. I just feel she is being too emotional...I need more “woman power”. For god sake, this is a woman who was a single mother in this conservative Sri Lankan society so she has to be more tough right? Come on writers...work on it!!!

The love this month I felt came from Anuhas and Samalka (as usual) but the utter cuteness came from Avantha and Dewmi. OMG!!! These two match so much!!! Dewmi really knows how to teach Avantha his life lessons in the harshest possible way. I loved it when she took the jeep for a ride right in front of Avantha’s eyes. If it was Anuhas in this situation he would just throw an anger fit and Avantha would enjoy it but Dewmi just knows how to wind up Avantha – LOVE THAT!!  Seriously!!!These two need more screen time together...one meet up once a week on screen is not enough...!!!

If this love story is going to happen I want Avantha to fall in love first but he shouldn’t understand that what he is feeling is love. I want him to fight that feeling and be angry with himself. I want him to have sleepless nights and I want him to have an inner fight with himself. Yes, I want him to suffer, I want him to torture himself...it’s about time he understood the true meaning of love. I need him questioning about why he feels so protective when it comes to Dewmi. Since he is such an arrogant character I don’t personally believe falling head over heels in love without an inner fight is quite his characterJ.

I also liked that fact that this month finally the writers made some progress with Samalka’s character. I feel that the fact that she faced Dewmi and told her she can make Anuhas go for cricket practices is a big thing. However I want the writers to be more realistic. I know Samalka had lost so much in her life but I don’t think she will let go off Anuhas so easily. After all it is after such a long time that she found someone who loves and cares for her like Anuhas so how can she give him up to Dewmi without a fight.

I really want the writers to progress in this area because I really don’t like this draggy love triangle between Anuhas – Samalka – Dewmi and the other one between Anuhas - Samalka – Avantha. It just doesn’t seem to be progressing either way. I want Avantha and Dewmi to understand that Anuhas – Samalka are meant to be together and then move on from there onwards...move on and fall in love with each other...

So this is about it when it comes to the overall review. I kinda dragged it because I wanted to include the results from the Coach Sir VS Lionel match in this review but then you guys must have been impatiently waiting for this review so I just went forward with itJ. Hope you enjoyed this review and stay tuned to Drama Queen for the latest in the Sri Lankan Drama Land <3 J.

Dewani Inima - The Love Triangle - July 2017 Review.

11:34 PM 0 Comments

Hello guys! I know I am very late on this post but I was catching up with some legal research I had to do for my Internship. To add to that I also watched Suits because it really can be a motivation for a wannabe lawyer like meJ. The most dreading thing however is the fact that results are coming and I am quite sure I failed one or maybe two...I am peeing my pants right now L. However let’s not dwell too much on my life because that’s not why you guys came hereJ. So let’s get started on this review shall we?

Well...well Dewani Inima has passed 120 episodes and did you guys even feel it? To tell the truth it has become a part of my life and I actually didn’t even notice. Bravo! Screenwriters and all those hard working people behind Dewani Inima, you guys are doing an amazing job and I hope you guys keep up the good work rather than dragging the drama.

Keeping this entirely aside I also like if these guys can put a little “life” into Samalka because she does seem to be a sissy as far as I can see it. I mean look at Avantha’s mom’s issue this month. I mean if my exboyfriend’s mother came to me telling me to get back together with her son I will just kick her ass out of my boarding house. I will literally tell her that I will rather jump of a bridge than get married to an asshole like Avantha (sorry about my French guys). However Samalka had other ideas and she was very civil to “Amesha” and even accepted all the gifts. I would have actually given them back to Avantha’s mother because if I took them I would look like a beggar. I might be very rude but the way things are going Samalka is just a beggar. She begged Avantha for money first and now she is begging it off Anuhas and the only excuse she has is that she is helpless.

As far as I can see she is far from helpless. The one thing she can do is find herself a decent job (I know she is underage) where being a minor doesn’t matter. So for e.g. she can ask Anuhas’s mom and work at the juice bar for a little fee or give tuitions for little kids who are doing the 5th standard scholarship exams. I mean I know women who are underage and working just because they don’t want to be a burden to others. Samalka is just a burden and as far as I can see she will continue to be a burden as the story further develops. For god sake screenwriters make her a “21st century” woman rather than an “1800’s woman” that’s all I ask you guys.

With all this talk of giving Samalka some “spunk” we have to say that Dewmi is the Goddess of I-am-confident-in-all-I-do. She is the exact opposite of Samalka and I quite like her character. She is a typical 19 year old who doesn’t give a shit about what other people say and she is the kinda person people call a daredevil. Right at the moment she is going through mood swings and that’s quite typical at that age and unlike Samalka, Dewmi is not a goody good. When she wants something she gets it somehow and we did see that when she told lies about Anuhas liking her and also when she faked she cut her wrists just to get Anuhas out of Samalka’s birthday party.

One could even say she is very possessive and isn’t that quite common at that age? OMG wait a second...doesn’t Avantha have the same issue? Did you guys just see how Avantha playfully tried to bit off Dewmi’s finger? Omg that was so cute and that quite made me hot under the collar...hey! Don’t judge me...I quite like playful guysJ. That scene was just amazing and it quite did give us a hint about what’s to follow in the future. If by any chance Cupid matches Dewmi and Avantha I will assure you guys that they will be our favourite couple ever. I would love those two so much and I think that this is exactly what’s going to happen. All you guys pray to the Greek God of Drama (whoever he is) to put these two together in drama land.

If you guys haven’t thought of it already, you guys really need to give some thought to this couple because Dewmi seems like the only bomb of a woman who can actually change Avantha. Samalka did give a try to change Avantha but then she was too girly and also dependent on Avantha. However, Dewmi is on the other hand an independent girl whom Avantha wouldn’t dare to kick around and I feel Dewmi’s character demands respect. She is not an all good traditional girl like Anuhas’s mother or Samalka. She is innocent and good hearted but she knows when to say “no” and when to kick ass and I love that about her.

She as far as I can tell s the only girl who can be with Avantha and boy, aren’t they gonna be a stunning couple! Ever wondered why Avantha is playful around Dewmi rather” hit her across the face” when she gives him advice or rips him off? Well that’s because he is attracted to Dewmi and he has finally met him match. He wouldn’t dare to hit or scold Dewmi because she will jump on him and rip his eyes apart if he even utters one disrespectful word about her and I feel he really does respect that part about Dewmi and bloody hell this is the first time I could even assume that Avantha respects someone!

Another character that is well designed is that of Anuhas and he is quite the guy to review. He is not 100% good and nor is he 100% bad and I wouldn’t even put him in the 50/50 range. If we look at his character we can see that he has always craved his father’s love and when he realised that “daddy boy”  ain’t gonna come, he quickly filled the love he had for dad with hatred. This hatred is not solely based on that fact that Ravi wasn’t there when Anuhas needed him but based on the fact that Ravi wasn’t there when Anuhas’s mom needed him. So all his life he seems to be filling the role of his dad when it comes to his relationship with his mother. He is always there for her, supporting her through the hard life and in doing so he has strived to be more independent. His job with his uncle is a very good example to show how he is trying not to be a burden to his mother.

His love story with Samalka follows the same kind of story. He has all his life supported his mother who was left helpless by Ravi. In the same way when he sees Samalka he sees a young helpless girl trying to find her way around in life and in that very moment he saw she was helpless he fell in love. I don’t know whether you guys have heard about Freud’s theory which states that when we search for a lover we always look for someone who is like our parents. So it is a similar thing that is happening here. Samalka in that sense is similar to Anuhas’s mother in many ways and it just seems natural for Anuhas for fall for her. In that sense Dewmi doesn’t match Anuhas because she is overpowering on his character. She is way too forward minded and strong for Anuhas who is portrayed as fun loving yet calm guy, he is not as emotionally open as Avantha who openly shows his anger and as openly shows his possessive love. So I don’t really think Anuhas and Dewmi match because they simply don’t have the chemistry love needs. Every time they are on screen we only see brotherly love as oppose to when Dewmi and Avantha are together.

At this point I also want to see whether these two brothers will ever unite. I mean they may be polar opposite but I do see some similarities. I mean it will be amazing if these two hit it off after the rocky relationship they had with each other. Of course if Dewmi falls for Avantha then maybe these two will be forced to at least be civil to each other. I would just love to see whether love is actually thicker than water.

So overall these are my ideas on the 4 main characters but then you are welcome to share your views in the comments belowJ. I personally think that both Avantha and Dewmi need to give up on their unsuccessful love stories and move on and get closer to each other...as far as onscreen chemistry goes I believe these two are made for each other.  Hope you enjoyed this review and please tune into Drama Queen for the latest on Sri Lankan Drama World.

Naagin Season 2/Prema Dadayama Season 2 overall Review

9:24 PM 0 Comments

Howdy guysJ I am back with a bit of frustration: P. Lol. So let’s get this straight...I ain’t an Indian drama fan in fact I ain’t a fan of anything to do with Indian dramas. I totally believe their dramas are way too draggy and have way too much “drama” (lol...no pun intendedJ ). However I do have to admit that they are good if you totally don’t have anything else to watch and I still haven’t reached that stage in life yet. I know I sound pretty harsh but then the truth is harsh right? Anyways many Sri Lankans (mostly jobless housewives) are head over heels in love with Indian soap operas but in recent years it has become quite clear, that most prefer Sri Lankan dramas over these soap operas. The pinnacle of Indian soap opera culture in Sri Lanka started off with Maha Gedara and Praveen and hit its climax with YHM or Me Adarayai. However as many of you see this trend is actually dying.  More and more people are drawn to Sri Lankan dramas such as Sidu, Dewani Inima and Hara Kotiya etc which are 100% more realistic and entertaining than any Indian drama. However Naagin Season 1 or Prema Dadayama, as many of you know it was quite a different story.

It was the first time in quite some time that Sri Lankans were able to see some “revenge” drama unfolding in front of their screens. If I remember right the last time that a revenge drama went on air was when Hiru TV showed EK Hasina Thi the Indian version of the English series Revenge. I have to admit that I quite liked Ek Hasina Thi better than RevengeJ.  We all did love Naagin 1. It was a pretty good drama and more than the plot line I loved the chemistry between Shivanya and Rithik. Actually I bothered to actually watch Naagin simply because I have a big crush on Arjun Bijlani (Rithik- he is so cuteJ ). Anyways, with the huge commercial success of Naagin, Sirasa TV went on to bring Naagin season 2 which followed the story of Shivangi (Shivanya’s daughter) and her revenge story. So this is going to be the review of the latter drama.

Season 1 couple

First of all, Rithik is killed off in the first few episodes of Season 2 and I pretty much lost interest in the drama (just kiddingJ ). Shivanya is left in the world full of cruel people with her one and only daughter Shivangi. It turns out Shivangi is not a Naagin but then the story develops further and Shivanya is killed by Yamini (who is brought back to life btw – typical Indian drama) and her minions. Shivangi gets her Naagin powers to take revenge from everyone who killed her mother. On the way she meets ultra cute Rudra who is a male shape shifting Naag. I have to admit I rooted more for Rudra and Shivangi to be together rather than Shivangi and Rocky. By the way, Rocky is the lover for Shivangi in Season 2. So what do I think of all this?

Rithik

Firstly, I totally do not see any chemistry between Shivangi and Rocky. Both of them just don’t match the way Rithik and Shivanya did. I loved the chemistry between Rithik and Shivanya and the truth is that their love made you crave for “that kinda love”.

They were so “real” in front of us and it made us forget that their love was just a drama. Actually one could even say that it is their chemistry which made Prema Dadayama a hit in Sri Lanka. However when it comes to Season 2 I really did not like the main lead. He is a nice guy but he just didn’t fill the role of a lover. Not only did he not look the part, even his character did not match the part. Half the time in the drama his whole purpose was to suspect that Shivangi and Rudra were in love. In reality Rudra and Shivangi had better chemistry that Shivangi and Rocky.

Rudra  more like rithik - so cute :)

After all Rudra was so steaming hot while Rocky did not seem as fun as Rithik. I personally feel Ekta (the producer) did not give much of a character to Rocky so making him so fake. I kind felt that Rudra was another Rithik while Rocky just seem to not fill those shoesL.

I also felt that plot wise Naagin 2 was just a duplicate of Naagin 1. There weren’t any twist and turns except the fact that Rocky was also a Naag and the stupid ending. It just seemed like they added a few extra players to the murder of Shivanya so to make it different from season1.  To add to this Rithik and Shivanya got a boon to live together by Lord Shiva but were only able to live together for less than a year, so this drama just is so stupid in a way.

The next issue I felt was that the characters were just too gaudy. There were shown as the “elite” of Indian society and they must have spent over a million only on Shivangi’s make up! I mean that woman had so much make up on that she looked soo fake! To add to this having Yamini there bathed in gold and gaudy jewelery just didn’t help much. These things were there in the first Season too but then Rithik was so down to earth and so “real” and so was Shivanya to some extent, plus their love story felt more real. Rocky just seemed like a puppet and even with the addition of a beard he just didn’t seem to fit in. In all those high intense romantic scenes between Rocky and Shivangi I just felt there was no intensity. With Rithik and Shivanya there was so much sexual tension that when they were together you just felt those vibes hitting you hard. In contrary Season 2 the intensity just fell flat and there were no such “vibes” to talk about.

Talk about sexual tension :P

To add to this, all things in Season 2 felt more unreal than it needed to be. The fact that Shesha could put all her Naagin powers into a pendent so to save herself from Shivangi was so unreal. I mean if that was possible in Season 1 then Shivanya could have survived many ordeals right? The whole fact was that Naagins found it hard to hide their power in Season 1 and now they give us a different story in Season 2. That is really not very consistent. Also the ending was just hilarious. It just seemed like a carbon copy of the scene in Bahubali Part 1. I mean there is no logic explanation why Rithik had to tell Rocky to kill off Shivangi. Why couldn’t she loose her power gradually? Why does she have to die in the end? Then what is the point of watching this drama in the first place? Also have you guys noticed that Rocky simply doesn’t go to work? As a matter of fact none of them go to work or outside their house, I have never heard of such a family. This is a major joke right?

The bad guys this time too :P

Also the writers seemed to be so lost sometimes. Some of the killing off scenes seems so dumb and so not creative. Also the fact that Rocky had sex with Shivangi just to make her loose her Naagin powers was just so unfeminist (I didn't watch that episode though). I mean that seemed to go by the ancient idea that a woman who lost her virginity is just nothing in front of society. It was just revenge sex and if a husband can fall that low then you just need to leave him. I mean in Rithik’s case even after finding Shivanya was a Naagin he didn’t go and have revenge sex just so to take her power away... that’s just so degrading.  To add to this the writers really had to kill off Rudra who was clearly having strong feelings towards Shivangi and that kind of brought about an anti climax and I felt that the writers could have done something more with Rudra’s character.

All in all I give this drama a 1 out of 5 in my drama scale simply because I saw nothing new in this drama. I haven’t actually watched the Sirasa TV edition much but I actually felt that the dubbing department had done a bad job with the voices especially Rocky’s and I didn’t quite like it. I have finished Naagin Season 2 which ended on the 25th of June in India.

Overall it was just a badly made copy of Season 1 and I recommend anyone who loved Season 1 to keep away from this season as it is just “horrible”. A season 3 is coming in November if I am not mistaken and I believe it would move on from the scene where Rithik tells Rocky to kill off Shivangi (which father wants his own child dead?). Maybe Shivangi returns to life to seek revenge from Rocky and his family for killing her or something...I mean the plot does not seem to have any potential at all. Ekta should have just ended it all in Season 1 on a high note. Season 2 just seemed like a half baked cake when compared to Season 1. I have to admit that it left a nasty after taste and I ain’t looking forward to Season 3 at all. Thanks for surviving through over 1500 words with me and I hope you come back for more reviews and don’t forget to keep tuned into Drama Queen for the latest entertainment news in Sri Lanka J J J J J. Love ya all:*
