Little Sujatha

Today my drama review is on Sujatha, the new drama on Sirasa TV. Personally I am not at all a fan of dramas shown on Sirasa TV but Sujatha is different. It provides us with a quality drama for everyone. Firstly it is very feminist and allows the girl to stand up on her own and secondly there is a lot to learn from it right now. I started watching it at 3.00 pm at which time they show it from the beginning and then started watching it after Heirs finished at 8.30pm..as there are no more Korean Dramas on TV Derana. Anyway here is the story line:

Sujatha in her teens

Sujatha is from a war torn area and her mother goes missing. She is found by army commander Nalin. Since he can't look after her, he gives her to a family whom he knows. This family consists of  the father who was a principal, mother who is a house wife, Niroshan and Chanuka. Quickly Sujatha gets close to all these characters. Yet she can still remember her real mother of whom she draws pictures of and calls Tharu Amma( Mother from the Stars). Somehow with time Sujatha forgets about this part of her life and moves on. We are continuously shown her adventures and how she matures and have fun with her friend Malithi and cousin brother. She  catches a drug scandal, saves her friends and even starts a club which helps poor children.Her studious and cute enemy but yet a protector is Shakya - their continuous fights are cute to watch. She teaches him that money is not everything.

Right now on the 8.30 show Sujatha is grown up and is in medical college. Again Shakya is with her and he unknowingly is slowly falling in love with her. Malithi now grown up aspires to be a movie star while also loving Sujatha's cousin brother. This cousin brother on the other hand is deeply in love with Sujatha which she does not understand. Without knowing any of this Sujatha happily spends time with Shakya and her cousin. Which leads them both to be jealous of each other, while Malithi slowly takes revenge from Sujatha for taking her cousin's attention away from Malithi.

I personally believe this is a must watch. The structure is very much like a Korean Drama but yet deeply rooted in our own Sri Lankan culture. It in this sense is very Sri Lankan showing us all the new position a woman can hold within our society. You could watch this drama at 8.30pm every week day on Sirasa TV or you can watch it from the beginning on weekdays at 3.00pm.
