Hello guysJ. I am sorry again for not posting in
a hell of a lot of time, but then I am stuck with my Second year at UOL and
trust me it’s not easy. My life currently consists of only one thing and that
is stress. This year, I hope will be a
great year for all of you and I do hope that I get through this year with
flying colours ;if it’s not too much to ask just pray for a good 2017J. Today I am not here to blabber
about my stressful life or how much I dislike commercial law but to give you
guys a review/trailer review of TV Derana’s latest drama Deweni Inima. If you
have not heard about it already just don’t be surprised because it still hasn’t
started on TV. I saw a lot of potential in the trailer which is about 5 minutes
and decided to voice my thoughts. This review is just my personal view of the
drama and pictures used are ones on the internetJ. Let’s get started shall we?
This drama review is full of assumptions, mind you J .
Okay so this drama is strongly based on cricket and it just gives me goose bumps just watching it. After all I am a huge Sri Lanka cricket fan and I love the fact that Derana came up with the idea to finally put cricket in a drama; after all it is something in our blood. The drama itself is produced by Saranga Mendis and the script is by Saman Edirimuni and I have a feeling that is going to be a Sidu like hit if properly done.
Past –First Innings.
As Ravi |
The drama seems to take the format of test match. A test match for those who don’t know has two innings. After the 1st innings another innings is played. It is in this 2nd innings that the real winner is uncovered. Sometimes in the 1st innings one team is really good and they seem to be winning but when the second innings comes sometimes they lose. The writers have used this cricket metaphor all over this drama. In the 1st innings aka the past we see that one side ( the necessary evil/ unfairness) wining but in the 2nd innings aka present we see the proper side ( justice/ fairness) finally reaching victory (I hope J). However this is just my idea of what this drama is about.
Himali Sayurangi as Anuhas's mother. |
The story follows a national cricketer called Ravi (I hope I got the name right – played by Bimal Jayakodi) who starts a nice little love affair with a pretty girl who I assume is a music teacher (played by Himali Sayurangi). However with time we see this girl coming to Ravi’s house with a cute little baby boy and as we can all assume this little boy’s dad is Ravi. However being a real douchebag (and may other things I cannot tell to a civilized society) he just tells Himali that he will pay a monthly fee for the upbringing of the baby. With her whole life shattered Himali starts the challenging task of a single mother in the Sri Lankan society. At around the same time or at the time of the relationship with Himali it seems that Ravi got married and this wife (Anjula Rajapaksha) of his also has a cute little baby. It is clearly shown that Anjula really hates Himali (for obvious reasons) and treats Himali’s child pretty badly. From the trailer itself we can see that Himali’s life was far from beautiful and that she had to go through lots of hardship to bring up her little baby.
Anjula Rajapaksha as Avantha's mother |
Present: The Second Innings – most properly where the name of the drama came from.
Raveen Kanishka an Anuhas |
At about this point we have a time leap and this is where the drama gets really nice. Both the little boys have grown up and both are playing cricket. Anjula’s son is called Avantha (Keshan Sashindra) and Himali’s son is Anuhas (Raveen Kanishka). Both of they are arch rivals and this is where the drama actually begins. The past would most probably be shown in the 1st week of the drama while the present will proceed from there on.
Keshan Sashindra as Avantha |
I really love the fact that Tv Derana has brought in new actors to play the main roles. After all we all fell in love with Dilum Aiya in Sidu and he was a new actor. In the same way Keshan and Kanishka will probably become far more famous than they already are. These two guys are from 2 consecutiveTv Derana Dream Star seasons and while Keshan won the title Season 3, Kanishka became the 1st runner up in Season 4. Both these guys are really cute and that is a word we rarely use in describing Sri Lankan actors (most actors are handsome but not cute right?). Both these fellows are young, hot (rawrJ ) and worth the watch. The rivalry between them would be really intense.

I have a feeling that maybe finally we will as Sri Lankan drama fans get a firsthand experience of the 2nd lead syndrome. The 2nd lead syndrome is where both the lead and the 2nd lead are extremely good and you sometimes don’t want either to win (Gu Jun Pyo and Ji Hoo situation in Boys over Flowers).
Right now I
am really rooting for Kanishka because he seems to be the lead plus I always
had a crush on him (which explains why I was glued to the TV when he was in
Dream Star Season 4J). Putting aside my deep dark secret let’s get back to the
review.
From what I
see from the drama there are two main female leads. One of them is played by Shanudrie Priyasad and she plays the
role of Avantha’s girlfriend (I assumed that). It seems like she doesn’t like
Avantha but likes Anuhas instead. However Anuhas has girlfriend who looks very
innocent ( I believe the actress is the girl won Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Earth)
and he seems to really love her. However the fact that Shanudrie likes Anuhas
really seems to get to that girl and she seemed to be taunted by it. Let’s just
hope she doesn’t break up with him because she does have really good on screen chemistry
with Kanishka from what I saw in the trailer. Raveen/Avantha seems to think
that Anuhas/Kanishka is a real threat to his love life and there seems to be a
rivalry there too.
So overall this drama has so much potential. I believe Derana has learnt a lot form Sidu’s rise to fame and decided to aim for the young adults when creating this drama. Unlike Wassane Premaya or Sal Sapuna (dramas which air at the 8.30 time slot) this drama is clearly different and is more concerned with the youth and their playfulness rather than the bigger issues out there. Other dramas in the 8.30 time slot in Sri Lanka are usually aimed at the older generation and are about politics, marriage, children etc however this story revolves around 19 -20years olds who like me have lots of other pressing youthful problems that revolve around love, parents, studies and careers. I think this drama is worth it and from the looks of the trailer I would rate it 4 out of 5 in my drama scale and I would say I might give it a 5 if the standard is equivalent to Sidu.
So guys I
hope you liked this review and I seriously recommend this drama to you guys,
after all it is not every day you could swoon over some really cute guys on Sri
Lankan Tv J. This drama will be starting on the 6th
of February 2017 at 8.25 on TV Derana and please do go on
and watch it and stay tuned to another review on this drama after it premiers on
the 6th of Feb. BTW Thank you Derana for this awesome Birthday gift –
I think I am already in love with this drama and really hyped about itJ and as always stay tuned to Drama Queen for the
