Drama Queen

This drama is a Chinese drama based on a Japanese manga series Inuyasha. This drama was shown on the 6.30 slot on Rupavahini before Diriya Diyani/ The Great Merchant Kim Man Deok was shown. Due to its magical elements most viewers did not like it after being exposed to Korean Dramas such as Dong Yi and Dae Jang Guem. Recently lots of people have grown a liking towards the mythical love story between Wen Tian and Ding Yao causing a lot of interest.

Well the drama it self is different from Inuyasha of which I was a fan of. The story is set in the Nanuwai Kingdom. Modern time archaeologist's daughter Ding Yao is accidentally transported to the Nanuwai Kingdom where she finds she is the reincarnation of Goddess Shian Yua. 

She accidentally breaks the holy vase and lets the holy pearls disperse all over the world. She along with Wen Tian a half dragon is to find these pearls and recreate the vase as the fate of the three Kingdoms – human, demon and dragon depend on it. 

On the way they find Wu Dao (the King of the Dragon Kingdom) who hates Wen Tian his own brother for being a human’s son. However ironically he too falls in love with a human Princess from Shu (Wen Tian’s mother was also a Princess of Shu).

They all make a team to find the pearls and restore peace in the 3 kingdoms while at the same time defeating the Demon King. The love between Wen Tian and Ding Yao is a very important theme. At the end of the drama Ding Yao leaves Nanuwai to present time China. However she is pregnant with Wen Tian’s child as shown at end.

In Inuyasha however in the end Inuyasha (Wen Tian) gets married to his girlfriend after she returns after finishing High School in Modern day Japan. In that story most characters have an happy ending and all live well. You can watch Holy Pearl aka Mayawarunge Lokaya every weekday at 4.00 pm on Rupavahini.

Well this drama has gone beyond all my expectations at the moment. The plot is rock solid, so many things are happening and Aditya and Astha are pulled close together. Well this drama is as good as any KDrama shown in Sri Lanka at the moment. However I have to admit the fighting scenes need improvement. The camera angles and the shots it self are beautiful to watch. Udaya Sri (Former member of boy band Centigrades) has done an amazing job with the music directing. He is so good at his job that his music makes us feel the same emotions we feel when we watch the drama. He is doing a fabulous job.

To add to all this, the plot of the drama is also very engaging. As a member of the audience you can hardly wait for the next episode to come out. I have not felt this kind of urgency for any drama after Apeksha finished on ITN.  Also the drama is oozing with cuteness that half the time you are just saying “awwww so cute” all the time. The cutest parts at the moment are of Aditya slowly falling for Astha and her childish ways. It is very sweet to watch Aditya’s rock hard outer shell falling apart in front of Astha making her see how vulnerable he is. The elephant scene if you remember even made Aditya smile (which is quite rare). To speak of the truth I have not seen such childish cuteness in a Sri Lankan drama after Iduwara (ITN).

The drama also has so much suspense that keeps us glued to the TV screen at 8.30 pm regularly. At the moment we have the problem of who the hell Akila (played by Kavinga aka Kalum of Uthum Pathum) is? We already know he is Aditya’s brother in law and that they hate each other. However why is Akila hiding Aditya’s sister in an empty house? Why is he trying to hide that this girl is pregnant? Why the hell is he brainwashing the sister against Aditya?

Well my theory of things is that Akila and Aditya’s sister are living together without the knowledge of the Danthanarayanas. When she got pregnant Akila just hid her away while she faked that she is pursing her further studies abroad. Main while Akila wants to take over Danthanarayana industries from Aditya so brainwashing the sister against Aditya.

Also Aditya (played by Saranga) and his mother’s relationship had hit the rock bottom. His mother (played by Mina Kumari) is one cruel lady thus a Sri Lankan “Tiger Mom”. She has obviously done something to Aditya’s former lover Shoba who is played by Saranga’s real life wife Umayangana. Whatever it is Aditya is really scared that the mother would do the same to Astha; this probably is why he is so protective of her even without them having an affair.

Astha on the other hand is dancing around with her emotions. She herself cannot understand that she is slowly falling for proud and arrogant Aditya Danthanarayana. The biggest problem she has is Aditya’s mother. The two lead ladies just don’t seem to go well together. The cruel hints passed by Aditya’s mother even make the audience’s blood boil let alone Astha’s. However we also feel sorry for the mother as she also seems to be a puppet of a bigger scheme. Mr. Danthanarayana seems to be behind every bad deed the Danthanarayanas did. The mother is just a scrap goat for him to put the blame on. We have seen hints of this through out the drama this week.

However at the end of the day this drama is doing really well. I personally believe that it should get the Sumathi Award for the best drama of 2015. If this is the future of Sri Lankan teledramas then I like what I see. In the near future our dramas will also get to the quality and clarity shown in Korean and some Indian dramas. If all our dramas meet the Wassane Premaya standards then we will not be showing dubbed dramas any more but other countries would dub our drama; and swoon over our actors and actresses. Well after waiting for such a long time for a plot change on Sujatha, things have started to gain pace. Sujatha’s "Trishula" drama actually brought forward the new plot of Shakya and Sujatha’s love story.  With Shakya saving Sujatha from the thugs and Sajith claiming that it was he who did it as an audience we were quite mad.

To make things worse Sujatha at the moment is proposed to marry Sajith much to the annoyance of the audience again. I mean come on who actually wants that ass (pls excuse my FrenchJ) to marry Sujatha. However things are starting to get better with Sujatha saying she loves Shakya in the cutest way possible. I mean Sujatha herself saying it out loud to long suffering Shakya and that cute hug got meJ.  However Sujatha’s brother Chanuka will do anything to put Sujatha and Sajith together. We all know why this is. Well again I think he is aiming to get the Hotel even by giving his sister to Sajith. I just hope he wouldn’t go the extra set to force Sujatha to marry Sajith. If this does happen then let’s bid adieu to the show my friends.

However when everything is going on well most of the time things go bad in Sri Lankan dramas as a general rule. So what can go bad in Sujatha? Let’s look at the possibilities.

Okay. A fan of my blog pointed out that Sujatha and Shakya could end up being siblings because of Doctor Thenuwara’s (Shakya’s father) mysterious relationship with Mrs. Madhini. This is assuming that Madhini is Shakya’s unpresent mother and also the fact that Madhini told Sujatha that they may have been mother and daughter in another life.

Well the possibility of this happening is 5%. I am saying this because we saw Sujatha’s real mother whom she called “Tharu Amma” in the opening episodes. Also general Nalin in the beginning tells Sujatha’s foster parents that her mother died in the war. Moreover everyone who tries to get Sujatha when she was small knew her mother was dead. So the option of Madhini being Sujatha’s mother is nil.

However the possibility of Madhini being Shakya’s mother is at 99% in my mind. The fact that she says that Thenuwara and she had a long history shows us evidence for this possibility. She also told Shakya that she made a mistake almost 20 years ago. Assuming Shakya is about 19 – 20 years then the mistake she made might be leaving Shakya behind 20 years ago.

If this is the case then Sujatha will face the problem of loving the son of the woman who tried to kill her. It is also good to notice that Madhini and Sujatha are haunted by the same dream – the war scene.

 Is it possible that Madhini is a long lost relative of Sujatha?

Well then Sujatha is blood related to Shakya and a marriage may seem impossible. However the question I have is why Madhini wants to kill Sujatha if she is her relative? Well maybe Sujatha as a child knew something she wasn’t suppose to know about Madhini. Why Madhini is running away from Sujatha is hard to figure out but she is up to no good.

If Sirasa TV somehow makes Sujatha Madhini’s daughter and destroys Sujatha and Shakya’s love story then Sirasa will loose even the small segment who watch Sujatha at the moment. A small warning to my dear TV watchers is not to keep to much hope on Sujatha, the plot itself – just keep hope in the love story. I believe the onscreen chemistry of Mardava and Nehara is just good enough to shed a few tears on. You can watch this drama every weekday at 8.30 pm on Sirasa TV.

Yes! Finally Rupavahini came to their senses and decided to shown Queen Seondeok rather than My Lovely Kim Sam Soon. However according to rumors after Janahithakami Rajiniya/ Queen Seondeok Rupavahini will be showing Lovely Kim Sam Soon

Well Queen Seondeok has many characters we have already met before as in the case of The Moon Embraces the Sun.The drama was broadcasted on MBC in 2009. Firstly the main character Queen Seondeok is played by Lee Yo Won. She acted as Jinyeon in Isiwera Wedaduru/ Horse Doctor. Then there is Noh Young Hak who acted Young Prince Gwanghae in Jung Yi. Then there is Im Ho who was the King in Sujatha Diyani/ Dae Jang Guem and finally Kim Yoo Jung who acted as Yeon Woo in Moon Embraces the Sun and Dong Yi in Dong Yi.

The story of the KDrama it self is very nice. We say bye to the Joseon era and we say Hi to Silla era. The drama focuses on Seondeok who is a princess of Silla. However when her country is in the hands of villainous Lady Mishil she risks her life for her nation. Her love for her country and her love for her lover Bidam is shown through out the drama. 

Please do not expect a happy ending however trust me you will fall in love with Bidam as much as you fell in love with young Lee Min Ho as Myung Yung. Her sister is assassinated in the attempt to get back her country. However Seondeok gains the love of Bidam in the process.

 A love blooms between them and they both end up dying for it (not a spoiler). Queen Seondeok became the first Queen of Silla. I would call this drama a very feminist drama and a must watch.

 *Note that Queen Seondeok is  before Joseon era in Korean History. It is when the times when Korea were the Three Kingdoms. 

This drama will be shown on Rupavahini beginning from next Friday the 24^th at 6.30pm. Yes I know, we will all miss Moon Embraces the Sun and its characters. I mean I will miss seeing Kim Soo Hyun as King Lee Hwon, Prince Myung Yung and Yeon Woo so bad!!!! I mean Hiru Sandu Adarei was one of the best dramas Rupavahini showed. Anyhow I hated it when Rupavahini edited all the cute scenes in the drama.

Okay guys, this was a great disappointment for me. I really wanted another historical drama to go on Rupavahini but plans have changed. However the new drama to go one Rupavahini is a very good KDrama. Ok, we have about 2 weeks and 4 days before Moon Embraces the Sun aka Hiru Sandu Adarei to end. It just has 45 episodes in Sri Lanka and 31 of them are already over.

The new drama is a romantic comedy and will remind you of My Girl/ Thatu Ahimi Samanali and Full House. This drama too was shown during the same times as My Lovely Kim Sam Soon was shown in 2005. On its Wikipedia page they have announced that My Lovely Kim Sam Soon will be shown on Rupavahini after The Moon Embraces the Sun/ Hiru Sandu Adarei.

 The drama itself is just 16 episodes of 60 minutes each. So that would be around 2 months or less in Sri Lanka. This drama too was shown on MBC which is the channel which showed almost all our favorite Historical KDramas that were shown in Sri Lanka.

The story follows a young girl who’s name is Kim Sam Soon who is not at all confident of her looks, weight and her future. The story follows how she found her perfect match and how she succeeded in life. As in Full House and My Girl the relationship of Kim Sam Soon and Jin – hyeon start as a contract.  

She is just a worker under her boss Jin hyeon who makes a contract with her so that she could stop his mother form nagging him about marriage.  You will also see that Jin hyeon’s little niece whom he has to look after is played by young Seol of The Moon Embraces the Sun/ Hiru Sandu Adarei.

This drama will show us that beauty is not everything and that talent and hard work matters.  Kim Sam Soon is not a thin pretty stereotypical girl but even though she is different she succeeds in life. In fact Kim Sam Soon’s story is a modern feminist drama that is a quality watch. It will be a good change of scene after all the Historical KDramas we have watched on Rupavahini.

Even though it is said that this drama will be aired on Rupavahini after The Moon Embraces the Sun or Hiru Sandu Adarei it is not for confirmed by Rupavahini. ITN recently finished the 6.00 pm drama on weekdays so My Lovely Kim Sam Soon may be shown in that time slot. Moreover Rupavahini has also got the hit historical drama Queen Seondeok which had on its Wikipedia page confirmed that Rupavahini will be showing it after the Moon Embraces the Sun/ Hiru Sandu Adarei in July.  Maybe My Lovely Kim Sam Soon is only a small break taken by Rupavahini to dub the huge long Historical KDrama Queen Seondeok which has 62 episodes of 1 hour each.

So hope you guys enjoy this new drama and remember every dark cloud has a silver line. Note: Rupavahini has decides to show Queen Seondeok instead of My Lovely Kim Sam Soon. However Kim Sam Soon will be shown after Queen Seondeok according to rumors....A post will be added on Queen Seondoek before its start on the 24th Friday of July....I am just delaying post till a final name is given to Queen Seondeok officially by Rupavahini to the newspapers.

Atlantis is seeing its last days. Jason will finally make the decision that the only way to save Atlantis is to kill the bad Queen, who is in fact his mother. With this Atlantis Season 2 ends and so does the story as it was cancelled by BBC. The next dramas or TV series Hiru TV will be showing is Arrow Season 3 and Flash Season 1.

We have already watched Arrow Season 1 and 2 from Hiru TV which was dubbed in Sinhalese. It became very popular in Sri Lanka and made Oliver Queen/Stephan Amell a household name. Yesterday Hiru TV put out the trailers for both The Flash and Arrow as coming soon.

I do not know exactly how Hiru will be showing both shows at the same time but maybe they are showing Arrow on Saturdays and The Flash on Sundays. 

However you will not understand certain parts of Arrow without watching The Flash and vice versa so it is a good thing that Hiru choose to show both these dramas together.

We already know Arrow and its characters and plot line well as we have watched Season 1 and 2 before. Of Course this is not the case for The Flash. Flash’s main character is Barry Allen. We saw him briefly in Arrow Season 2 in “The Scientist” episode where he comes as Felicity’s love interest.

 We also saw that he gets to know who Arrow is and how he helps Arrow. However in the same episode we saw Barry being struck by lighting and he is left in a coma after being exposed to chemicals in his lab.

It is 9 months after this that Barry gets up and finds out that he has super human speed. He will therefore be fighting crime in he same city as Arrow. It is good to note that Felicity falls in love with Oliver in Arrow Season 3 and they have quite a successful affair.

 Flash/Barry would be the third party in this affair with him loving Felicity. This causes jealousy to arise between Arrow and The Flash however later they somewhat becomes friends. Arrow is destined to marry Black Canary/Laurel Lance and The Flash to marry Felicity.

Well if you have watched Prison Break as I have you will also see actor Wentworth Miller the protagonist of Prison Break as the villainous Leonard Snart/ Captain Cold on The Flash.Moreover his on screen brother Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave also in The Flash.

Overall everyone is going to enjoy these two action packed TV series and aren’t I excited!! The parts I really loved were when Arrow and Flash had crossovers which were just awesome.
